Clinical Manifestation and Histopathologic Observation of Erythema Induratum

Abstract
We report herein the clinical and histologic features of 12 cases of erythema induratum. The characteristic cutaneous lesions on the legs of middleaged women were violaceous, indurated nodules, 1 to 3cm in diameter, which were occasionally
painful
and
could heal with scarring. The diagnosis was made by histopathologic appearence and by positive Manteaux test results. The histologic features were varied but predominantly those of a vasculitis and lobular panniculitis with granulomatous and
tuberculoid
infiltration. Manteaux test results were positive in 6 cases among 8 patients(75%). It is not clear tuberculosis is the etiologic of erythema induratum, but there were many reports that erythema induratum is intimately associated with
tuberculosis,
We
think that chest PA and Manteaux test give us beneficial effect for diagnosis of erythema induratum, especially in Korea, because Korea is endemic area of tuberculosis.
